At the arrival at Górowo Ilaweckie High School (a Ukrainian highschool), students sang
beautiful mountainsongs from Ukraine to greet us. During the Stalin-era over 100 000
Ukrainians were deported from Ukraine to Poland. For many years the Ukrainians didn't take
care of their immediate sourroundings, since they were anyway hoping for a return to their
homecountry. Now slowly, they are regaining their culture in their, now since long, new
homeland. We experienced the cruelty of Stalin's ideas when listening to mountainsongs in
this very flat landscape.
